Tuesday Feb. 14/12

Get away day from London to Calgary arrived at 8:58 am
Picked up by my host Fred Zucker for the 1hr and 15 min drive to Red Deer.
Arrived at Fred & Louise’s home and settled in.
Spent the remainder of the day shuttling vehicles from local Ford dealer, Festival Ford, to the arena
Also orientating myself to the great city of Red Deer
Wednesday Feb. 14/12

Continued my city orientation, routing to Co-op fuel & wash facilities, Sheraton Hotel, Red Deer Lodge, Westerner Park, Liquor/Beer outlets
Fred & myself went for our first run to Calgary airport to pickup Jennifer Jones Manitoba Team at 6pm. I transported Jill Officer, her 9 mo. Daughter and Mother.
We had to use 2 Ford Flex’s and 1 Cargo Van
Transportation Director had the pleasure of Driving Jennifer(Lost that one)
 
Thursday Feb. 15/12

Today is arrival day for the rest for the remainder of teams.
All on duty drivers pick up teams from Calgary airport.
My run was a 12:05 pm pick up of Team Newfoundland, Heather Strong.
Finally figured out all the routes, good to go.
Finally qualified for my temporary Red Deer License.
Friday Feb. 16/12
Today is is action day for the drivers and the dispatcher.
Moving players & coaches from the Hotel to the Centrium
(Rink).
We have the greatest Dispatcher, Dan. He has been the dispatcher at many CCA events in Alberta over the years.
He is a tireless worker and does all three shifts.
He is the MAN!
Ford Hot Shots started and finals on Saturday.
Started my 6:30am to Noon shift.
About mid morning got the call to Pick up a CCA Governor from Calgary Airport, Bernadett, a familiar face from the London Brier. Arrived back in Red Deer about 1:30pm.
Finally picked up my Accreditation
Volunteer Party started at 6pm with a wonderful huge roast of Alberta xxx Beef dinner.
Received a prize for being the furthest away volunteer, Bev will like the Spa gift set.
Stuart Brown was our familiar announcer M/C. He is the M/C for all the CCA events and does a fabulous job. He’s a comedian.
Dinner was followed by 2 fantastic Bands.
Tera Lee, and her Country Music Band, she is the morning show host of the local Red Deer award winning radio station
KG country
St. James Gate - A Rollicking, Rambunctious Celtic Alberta Band, who perform in their customary Kilts.

The Joint was packed
  
 
Saturday Feb. 18/12


SHOW TIME - my day started at 6:30am in queue at the Sheraton waiting to take teams to opening ceremonies and the finals of the Hot Shots.
Northwest Territories/Yukon Skip Kerry Galusha, wins the Hot Shots and the lease of a Ford Focus Titanium for two years.
Received a call to pickup two BC ladies with the Sandra Schmirler Foundation, Lindsay Sparkes and Marcia Gudereit (3rd for Sandra Schmirler team)
Received another trip to pickup a package at Fedex near the Calgary Airport. Back in Red Deer at 2:30 pm and finally off shift.
Watched Tracy Horgan Team win their opening game, a great win. Well done Tracy! Met the team twice and they are most excited team here. Fantastic people.
Went back to the rink in the evening and watched for a few ends then home for the evening.

Sunday Feb. 19/12

Got some rest today until shift starts at 6pm to midnight.
We went to the Moose Lodge for the best $5 brunch ever.
The food we had will last until supper(if I get any)
Spent most of the morning creating this blog before heading over the catch the last 5 ends of the afternoon draw before my shift begins.

Ontario 2 wins 1 loss....Great Start
Lots of snow tonight, many accidents including a transportation vehicle.
They were tied up over 2 hrs waiting for the RCMP to arrive.
Home at 12:30am

Will be driving Peter Inch to the Calgary Airport later this afternoon, he was real surprised to see me volunteering here.
